While you are on a Sunday drive on a beautiful old country road in London, a rock suddenly flies up out of nowhere and hits your windscreen. There is just a small ding at first, so you do not worry about it too much. But, by the time you get back to the highway it has turned into a spider web crack that seems to be getting bigger the longer you drive. When you get home you notice that it is now a spider web with a crack that is getting longer. What can you do? It is Sunday evening and almost everything is closed.
The first thing you should do is call MY WINDSCREEN LONDON. We will come to you seven days a week, 24 hours a day, so you will not have to drive any further and make the damage worse. We can give you a free estimate, and if it is small enough we can fix it right then and there. But, if you need a new windscreen you will have to bring it in so we can fix it properly with the correct tools. So, will your insurance cover it? That all depends on several things.
If you only have the minimum insurance on your vehicle or liability, the windscreen repair is most likely not going to be covered. While liability will cover the damage to other vehicles if you are the cause of an accident, it does not cover anything that happens to your vehicle. Comprehensive will cover the damage to your windscreen and, in many cases, will not even charge a deductible. If you have to have a new windscreen installed, your insurance will more than likely cover it if you have comprehensive or full coverage insurance. In some cases, there may be a deductible, but many insurance companies do not charge a deductible. It depends on the policy you chose when you got the insurance. If you chose a policy with a lower deductible you probably pay more on your monthly bill, but your deductible will be much lower.
In the case of the rock hitting your windscreen, you will need to have comprehensive insurance. But, what if the damage is caused by a car accident? If the other driver is the cause of the accident, their insurance company will have to pay. If it was your fault and you have full coverage or collision coverage, your insurance will pay for it. Either way, if it is small damage that can be repaired, your insurance will usually pay for it and waive the deductible.
Here are some ways to tell if you will need a new windscreen:
